Historic National Conference of PCB-Impacted Communities to Convene
PCB Congress to Focus on Public Health Concerns

Representatives (delegates) from numerous communities across the country that have been impacted by PCB contamination will gather at Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT, to share experiences and map a unified national strategy to fight for the health of our communities. The two-day Congress will take place March 26 - 27, 2003. A Declaration of Independence from PCBs will be declared and delivered to the General Electric Company. Featured speakers include leading PCB impact researchers Drs. David Carpenter and Brian Bush of the University at Albany's School of Public Health, Peter Montague, one of the nation's leading grassroots organizers and publisher of Rachel's Environment and Health Weekly and Dr. Peter deFur of Environmental Stewardship Concepts. Communities to be represented include Anniston, Alabama, Pittsfield and New Bedford, MA, Fort Edward, Hudson Falls and other Hudson River communities and Brockport, NY. Others joining the Congress include First Nations Yu'pik representatives from Alaska, Akwesasne Mohawks from the St. Lawrence River in New York and Indigenous community representatives from Matamoros, Mexico.

All conference sessions are open to the public and will take place in the Dolan School of Business dining room at Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT. At the end of the first day, a rally/vigil will take place at the Front Gate of GE World Headquarters, 3135 Easton Turnpike, Fairfield, CT. Press coverage is invited and a room will be set aside for interviews.
