PSARA Technologies, Inc. Project Memorandum Westinghouse Electric Corp. Fell Iron & Metal Site To: J. Patrick, Westinghouse D. Rohaus, Westinghouse D. Alke, Westinghouse D. Hopkins, EPA B. Bent, Earth Tech S. Chambers, Earth Tech C. Elders, WRS John Langley, Bloomington Utilities D. Williamson, Monroe County Health Department From: Mike Hessling Date: December 19, 1995 File: 30006.20 Subject: Weekly Project Status Report - Week of November December 11-16, 1995 This memo and the accompanying attachments constitute the Fell Iron & Metal Weekly Project Status Report for the week of December 11-16, 1995. This report is intended to provide a weekly project update regarding the quantity of material loaded, air monitoring results, water treatment activity, soil sampling results, and any major developments at the site. Attachments to the report include the cumulative Perimeter Air Sampling Log, a Meteorological Data Report, and the results of personnel exposure sampling. If you have any questions or comments about the report, contact Dave Rohaus at (812) 335-0442 or Mike Hessling at (812) 335-0424. Project Developments Project Schedule The stockpile to be excavated has been completely removed from the Fell Iron & Metal site. The work to be completed the week of January 1, 1996 will include taking a lift from the impacted areas, re-sampling the areas, and demobilizing any remaining equipment. Work should be completed by Friday, January 5, 1996. The project will be shut down starting Tuesday, December 19 to observe the Holidays. The project will resume on Wednesday, January 3, 1996. Soil Sampling On Thursday, December 14, a lift was taken from grid numbers 55, 57, 67 and the significant hole in the liner in grid 53. The areas were re-sampled on Thursday and the samples were sent to Heritage Laboratories for analysis. The enclosed figure shows the location of these areas. Results from the soil re-sampling have been received. The PCB concentration is below 10 ppm. Twenty additional 20-ft by 20-ft grids were sampled on Friday, December 15. Samples were also collected from a significant hole in the liner in grids 78 and 82, and the berm in grids 87 and 88 on Firday. Nine additional 20-ft by 20-ft grids were sampled on Saturday, December 16. The samples were sent to Heritage Laboratories for analysis. The enclosed figure shows the locations of these areas. Soil sampling results have been received. Results for grid numbers 83, 89, 92, 95, 96, and 98 were above the action limit of 10 ppm. Also, the results of the significant hole in the liner in grid 82 and the berm in grids 87 and 88 were above 10 ppm. A lift will be taken from each of the areas. The grids will then be resampled. >> The following data was extracted by COPA from the tables attached to the memos.
