********************************************************* Fell Iron and Metal - Status July 15, 1995: On March 1, 1995, Westinghouse submitted a request to EPA to transport the PCB-contaminated soil stockpiled at the Fell site to the USPCI landfill in Utah. In April, EPA distributed a Fact Sheet summarizing Westinghouse's request and encouraging community members to review and comment on the proposal. In May, there was a public meeting at Fairview Elementary School which provided the community an opportunity to ask questions and make formal comment. There was also a six week public comment period that ended in June. Some comments and questions were communicated on this bulletin board, and we hope that this continues in the future. In late June, EPA approved Westinghouse's request to transport the stockpiled soil at Fell to the USPCI facility in Utah. We have not yet received any written notice of that decision, nor have we obtained the Responsiveness Summary, in which EPA summarizes each comment and responds to it. These documents will be placed on the bulletin board as soon as they are available. The transcript from the meeting was full of mistakes...we submitted corrections to EPA, but the unedited version is currently on the bulletin board. Select "EPA site information". COPA's written comments to EPA are in the "COPA" section. Please let us know your concerns about the proposed Fell removal by leaving comments in the Forum section, or by leaving a mail message to SYSOP. *********************************************************
